History of the temple

Formerly the area was a Plam forest. The Temple is nearly 1300 tears old, built by Nindra Seer Nedumaran. The Temple inscriptions which was unearthed in 1999, says that there were 32 theerthams around it and one among in east is Dharma theertham, had the power to cure diseases even leprosy.

The lord here is in Grahastha kolam. Once Saint Agasthiar visited this Temple . Attracted by the elegance, he requested Lord for Kalyana Dharsan. Lord blessed him, by showing him with his two Devis, Poorna and Pushkala. As a remembarance of this , an idol of Agasthiar is also there facing Sastha. These informations are seen in Nellaiappar temple Sthala Puranam and some of the hymns (Pathigams) of Sekhizhar . (Sekhizhar is one among 63 Nayanmars of Saivam)

The idol of Sastha is about 5 ½ Feet high , highest of all Sasthas in all over the district. Usually, all the other Sastha idols have Agni Siras, a bouquet (Poochendu) in right hand and left hand showing his feet. But here, Karumbanai Veera Dharma Sastha has Jadamudi on the head, bouquet in the left hand and the right hand showing his feet.
